Rabbi Rachel Short

Ordained as one of the youngest female Rabbis in the world, Rabbi Rachel Short is a Holistic Healer, Reiki Master Teacher, certified Yoga and Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga Leader and AromaTouch Practitioner. This path found her after she was diagnosed with an “incurable illness” and told she would never walk again. Healing herself, Rachel made a pact with The Divine she would devote her life to being of service. Reiki found Rachel during her own healing and she was called to become a Master Teacher so she could share this gift with others. She completed her yoga teacher training with Yandara Yoga Institute and later went on to lead their Yoga Teacher Trainings and be featured on their blog. She began pursuing the Rabbinate while in Israel, where she studied with many Rabbis including the founding Rabbi of the Kabbalah Center in Tzfat. Rabbi Rachel, on a mission to modernize Judaism, often raps her sermons and includes yoga, self-healing and meditation into her services, redefining the concept of a synagogue. Her podcast Rapping with Rabbi Rachel, is a glimpse into all she is here to create. She also is honored to chair the Hawai’i County Board of Ethics and to serve on the boards of Hawai’i Care Choices, Hawai'i Island United Way, Hawai'i Island Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, Kilauea Hui, Interfaith Communities in Action, and is active within the Hawai'i Island community at large. She was recently deployed to Maui following the Lahaina fires as Red Cross Spiritual Care Supervisor. You can often find her surfing, swimming with her daughter (and/or dolphins!), or practicing Yoga on her Stand Up Paddleboard, when she isn't being of service to her community.

Rabbi Rachel prides herself on helping others find a nourishing sacred spiritual connection. Her journey has been nothing short of biblical, and she will continue to follow The Divine blindly, knowing that trusting and surrendering to What Is, IS the only way. Her commitment to community and consciousness is authentic and invigorating. Whether she is officiating life cycle events, holding space during counseling, facilitating Reiki trainings, working with youth, speaking to a group, you will be grateful that Rabbi Rachel is now a part of your life.

“Rabbi Rachel’s warmth, compassion and kindness made her a pleasure to work with for our daughter Hallie’s bat mitzvah. She struck the perfect balance between her relaxed and spiritual nature and her dedication to training. We are grateful to Rabbi Rachel for helping Hallie’s bat mitzvah be such a special, memorable occasion.” — Stephanie Zilberman

“Working with Rabbi Rachel for our wedding ceremony on the Big Island was an absolute blessing. Our goal of having a small, short, intimate ceremony that included a Ketubah Signing was completely met. Rabbi Rachel spoke with us on the phone multiple times before flying to the Big Island and was genuinely interested in learning who we were, what was important to us, and what we were looking for in a wedding. Rabbi Rachel even made time to meet with us in person the week leading up to the ceremony. Our rainbow Ketubah is proudly displayed in our home to this day and every time we walk by it, we think fondly of our time and connection to Rabbi Rachel. With much love and gratitude.” — Nathaniel & Justin

“Rabbi Rachel is an amazing healer. She has a gift to connect to the energy field and translate it in a way that I can understand clearly. Her advice is always so right on and wakes me up in different ways. I like myself and appreciate myself more every time I leave her session. Her Reiki work is like a rainbow shower onto my body. Mahalo nui loa, Rabbi Rachel for sharing and doing what you do!” — Maiko Noda

“I honestly don't know where I'd be, if I hadn't met the beautiful soul that is, Rabbi Rachel Short. I can honestly say that I would not be the woman I am today, had I not met her. She lovingly guided me to the realization that I'm the main character in my life, that I have all the power I need to live my fullest and highest potential. That I am responsible for both all of my pain and my joy. Her down to earth, supportive, loving teachings will stay with me forever. Eternally grateful.”— Val Ishimoto
